  • This is a fun, arcade-style flight simulator with real potential for further development. It performs splendidly on all eight of my LINUX laptops and PCs (all equipped with nVidia graphics cards), and it works well with either joystick or mouse control. Flight is very smooth and response is very quick. written in C++, it relies on opengl and sdl graphics libraries. I got it to compile easily on the "Minime" version of the "PcLinuxOs" LINUX distribution, updated as of about 10Apr2015. I made a 34 minute, high-definition YouTube video showing EXACTLY how I compiled the source code, including identifying, downloading, and installing all of the prerequisite libraries and tools. Unfortunately I cannot embed a URL to that video clip in this review, so you will need to go to google and search for "Compiling Video Games: GL-117 Flight Simulator by AskMisterWizard". The first youtube link to pop up should take you directly there. I hope this helps others to compile this fine package from source code. Because the compiling video clip referenced above was performed on a minimal, contemporary desktop LINUX, it really does reveal ALL of the details and steps that ought to be necessary on almost any desktop LINUX as of the time of this writing in April of 2015. Update 31Oct2017: GL-117 has not been updated in a long time.... Check out my "Linux Air Combat" sim. I derived this from gl-117 during a 2.5 year period. Currently at version 5.09, the emphasis is on simulation (not arcade) and it now simulates 28 aircraft from World War II. Online, multiplayer flight and combat is fully supported with a free server and live voice comms! A YouTube search for "Linux Air Combat" will find it quickly. It's also here on Sourceforge.
  • GG, but it really needs multiplayer. Without multiplayer I got bored same day I downloaded it. :(
